Arua city

Over 100 newly elected district executives of the Forum for Democratic Change Party in West Nile have been sworn-in to take office amidst the nationwide in-fights in the party at the advent of the elections.

On Thursday 12th May 2023, the FDC National Executive Committee adopted the Structure Building Roadmap 2023 and resolved to start implementing the Structure Elections Roadmap meant to kick off on 19th June 2023.

However, on 16th June 2023, National Executive Committee requested EC to adjust the roadmap for four weeks starting on 16th June 2023.
But this attracted deaf ears from several party leaders in the districts who went ahead with their elections as announced earlier by the electoral commission.

While swearing in the leaders in Arua city on Friday 1st September, 2023, Al hajji Abdul Hakim Moli, the FDC party commissioner for West Nile disclosed that 123 districts have conducted the elections country wide. “I want to assure you, we have carried very successful elections across the nation. Out of the 150 districts, 123 districts, 82% have conducted these elections,” he said.

In move to strengthen the party in the region ahead of 2026 elections, Halia Samza the party chairperson for Arua central division appealed for the establishment of a party office in the region. “Following the constitution of FDC party, it is in record that Arua city has taken it, we only have one challenge here, we do not have an office for FDC in Arua city. We pray that an office be established in Arua city to coordinate the constituencies that we have in Arua city for us to run our FDC activities very effectively this time”, she noted.

Similarly Mawa George, one of the party leaders from Maracha district reminded that their election supervisors in 2021 needed to be paid. “politics in Uganda has been highly commercialized, so that is what has killed our people in Maracha district and again our supervisors the parish, sub county and district supervisors up to now in Maracha, we haven’t paid their token, so people are not feeling happy. Though we feel that we still belong to this party, the party is still owning our money,” Mawa reminded

But Wante Jamal the FDC party chairman for Namutumba district tasked the party leaders in the region to contest for national positions in order to raise such matters in the higher forums. “By 06th October, come and converge at Nanjjanakumbi, come yawning for positions, come and fight and get positions. Now if you don’t go there and become a leader, then you will have cheated your people because the quantity of message coming down will be a challenge,” Wante warned.

The FDC party National Delegates Conference shall take place on 06th October with about 1,400 delegates expected.
