The Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Madi Okollo, Swaib Toko is calling for calm in the district following a clash between two families in the clans of Ndubu and Pajo in which two people have died.

The RDC was speaking to the media on Thursday April 18, 2024 to clarify on information circulating on social media about the killings which he said could easily fuel revenge attacks.

“I want to clarify the misinformation that is going on in the social media about what happened in Offaka, between Ndubu and Pajo clans. It’s not a clan war putting Ndubu against Pajo. Some people from Ndubu went and attacked then killed some family members in Pajo, 2 people killed from the same family. I was at the burial to confirm that only two people died not three or four. It’s not a clan war,” the RDC assured.

The RDC says, based on the information from the elders in the area, there has been a history of conflict in the same area in the past. “I heard from the elders that, incidences of killing among themselves has been there but it has not been one clan moving to attack the other. They are claiming a certain piece of land. It’s those families in Ndubu and the one in Pajo but not the entire Pajo and Ndubu. So, people should not think the Pajo are preparing to come and attack Ndubu, no. The situation is under control and we as government, we are pledging full support as security we shall not have a repetition of such. All arrangements are in place to make sure that all those involved in the killings are brought to book and quite a good number of suspects have been picked and more will be picked,” he explained.

The RDC, as head of security in the district says, the situation has been taken note of, with security deployment to respond to any intended possible revenges or clashes “We have done deployments at strategic places and we want to keep our presence in those places for some time, as we also pursue the suspects. I want to say that, people should not take the law in to their hands. First of all, our structure of governance starts will the LC 1, so when any issue happens at village level, I request people to first report to the LCs, mob action should be discouraged” he warned.

The two people who were killed over the boundary dispute were laid to rest on Wednesday 17th April 2024.
