Police in Ayivu division is holding a 32 years old man for alleged impersonation and fraudulently picking money from people.

Feni Derrick the said suspect who claims to be a resident of Mvara in Arua city has been accused by Oyiri Rashid Onee a resident of Ombaci ward in Ayivu Division East at the division police headquarter under SD reference 18/16/06/2023 after fraudulently picking 200,000 UGX from him in the names of Hon. Geoffrey Fetaa, the Ayivu East member of parliament on accounts of supporting the victim with a water pump.

According to Oyiri Rashid Onee the victim of this fraud, the impersonator Feni Derrick asked him to send the money as transport to a number registered in the names of Ocitia Peter whom he claimed to be his coordinator. “On 7^th of this month, I received a phone call from an unknown number that ends with 25, asking me; do you the person who slashed around the mosque? I said I don’t know. Then he said I Hon. Feta Geoffrey. He asked again “I heard you have a marungi field” and that he wants to support me with a water pump as being a brother. I said its okay, he asked me to send some 200,000 shillings on that same number in the names of Ocitia Peter, which he said will be refunded as they bring the water pump. I then asked a mobile money operator who then sent this money”. Rashid narrated.

The suspect Feni Derrick admits to have committed the offence and claims to have got the phone number by the names of Ocitia Peter from Koboko. Record from the police indicates that the said suspect had another case of fraud and impersonation registered against him after conning a reverend 70,000ugx disguising himself as the O.C of Ayivu division police station.

Joseph Oyiri the campaign coordinator of Hon. Geoffrey Fetaa in Ombaci ward assures the public that any pledge from the Hon. M.P normally goes through his coordinators. “Anything that comes from Hon. Fetaa Geoffrey will come through me the coordinator. I will be the first person to announce that such thing or project has been given by our Honorable member of parliament, I distribute them myself not somebody who claims to be Hon. Fetaa Geoffrey without approving that from the coordinator.” Joseph assured.

But Hon. Geoffrey Fetaa the Member of Parliament for Ayivu East distances himself from having any affairs with the suspect but rather summons the public to desist from such unlawful actions. “I want to caution people who are been used by other people who portray themselves to be me as Fetaa Geoffrey to obtain money from people. This I believe is a smear campaign orchestrated particularly for political reasons. I want to appeal to anybody who is likely to be used to be careful because the law will definitely be allowed to take its course.” Hon. Fetaa summoned.

According to the constitution of Uganda, anyone who pretends to be anyone living or dead with the intention to defraud or cheat people commits an offense and is liable to 2 years imprisonment.
