The best pupils who obtained first grades in the 2022 Primary Leaving Examinations PLE in Moyo district have been rewarded by the area Member of Parliament Aleru Tom Aza. Stakeholders this week convened at Moyo people’s hall to witness the awarding event of the 54 learners who were each given a mattress and a pair of bed sheets. This has been an annual event but did not take place for about two years as a result of the covid 19 lock downs. The annual event serves as a motivation to the learners so that they are propelled to work harder and excel in academics.

During the ceremony the district sports officer Wilson Edema who represented the district education office urged parents to support the learners so that they are able to excel in studies sighting that every one rips what they saw. He explained that some parents don’t want to provide their children with scholastic materials but expect their children to pass exams. Out of the 54 pupils who obtained first grades there only 12 from the government schools.

Meanwhile Anyanzo Teri the secretary for social services Moyo in his speech remarked that more attention needs to be driven towards the government aided school as the biggest number of first grades in the district emerged from the private schools. “We have witnessed that among the best performers, most of them are from private schools. Because of this, the district is celebrating and at the same time mourning the performance of the government schools”, he said.
The deputy Resident district commissioner Moyo Julian Ssekawama appreciated all stake holders who supported the learners and applauded the pupils for completing primary level. “We want to thank God you have completed this first level. But what we need to focus on right now are the solutions to the high dropout rates and this calls for collective efforts to see how performance in the government schools can be improved”, he said. Adding: “The government alone cannot do enough to improve the performance in UPE schools”.

Aleru Tom Aza, the Member of Parliament Moyo west constituency in his message emphasized that Spirituality develops discipline and the love of God brings wisdom saying that education is all about moral values, discipline and respect.
He also requested learners to report any case of Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender practices in their schools.
