ARUA CITY AWARDS 8 CONTRACTS TO BEST LOCAL BIDDERS

Arua city procurement department has handed 8 contracts worth 589 million shilling to 8 successful local bidders to facelift and construct classrooms and other facilities in the various sectors within the city.

The contracts awarded under this project include: construction of two classroom blocks and office spaces at Lufe primary school worth 149,699,420shs to True star investments ltd, Ruva primary school worth 102,296,176.2shs Tabu and Brothers enterprises ltd and Odravu primary school worth 114,065,850shs to Hope Engineering and construction works, fencing of Niva primary at 104,496,000shs to Uguja investments and services ltd and a livestock market in Arua central at 79,879,000shs to Time to Time enterprises, repair and maintenance works at the Abattoir at 70,298,190shs to Quks enterprise, construction of patients’ waiting shed at Police health center iii at 32,698,930shs to Judean Hills and construction of two water kiosks in central division at 31,661,760shs to Karakas General supplies and construction ltd.

While handing over the signed contracts to the contractors on Wednesday 03rd April 2024, Malon Avutia the mayor of Ayivu division tasked the contractors to seek guidance for the technical people to avoid other eventualities from arising in the due course of works,

“There has been a practice in the due course of bidding sometime some contractors bid very low, after winning the contract, practically in the field it is realized that the money cannot produce the works. I want to request that our contractors should do their BOQ with guidance from the technical people so that you are not put into a tricky position,” Malon pleaded.

Meanwhile Moses Adriko, the Arua city secretary for finance, planning and administration cautioned the contractors that, “Our expectation is value for money, quality work. You’re our own we don’t want to find fault, the money that we have given must have an impact,” Adriko warned.

Arua city mayor His worship Wadri Sam Nyakua challenged the contractors to beat the project timeline, “Keep the names of your company high by doing good job, meet timelines, ensure that before May closes, all these constructions must have been done,” Nyakua said.

Acewere Titus a contractor at True stars investments U ltd on behalf of the contractors assured the city leaders of quality and timely works. “All of us are aware that when you go to the field you are supposed to employ the locals, we have been doing it and we shall do it. We won’t disappoint you the city and all of us shall be happy at the end, Acewere assured.

The contracts are expected to end within 2023-2024 financial year.
