The construction of a regional Juvenile Gender Based Violence GBV reception center at the regional police headquarter in Arua city has reached 80% completion after the handover of the site merely two months ago.

The 195 million project undertaken by Save Children with funding from the foreign affairs ministry of Japan is contracted to “Self-building” investments limited.
I had an interview with Albert Anguzu, the project manager of Self building limited on the progress of the project.

Qn: Can you briefly give me the background of this project you are undertaking at this site?
Ans: “This site is a construction of are protection center in Arua police station. It is funded by KFW in partnership with save the children”.

Qn: When did you commence with the construction works at the site?
Ans: “We started this work two months ago with site clearance, then we have so far reached roofing”.

Qn: In terms of percentage, at what level is this work as per now?
Ans: “This project has so far reached around 80% because we are going to put the iron sheet next week which will constitute the 80% and if you check the necessary parts, we are all done and we shall only be remaining with fixing of the doors and so on.”

Qn: Aware that for a project to reach this stage, there are challenges you incur on the way. What are some of the challenges that you incurred in this project?
Ans: “As been the work of an organization we are closely supervised by all the stakeholders of the city and the organization and there is delay in release of funds by the funders of the project”.

Qn: With all these challenges, how were you able to bring this project at 80% completion?
Ans: “Entirely this level has been on the side of the contractor, we have entirely used our own money to do this work. We are also hoping that the payment is done in time”.

Qn: Given the challenge of delayed release of funds, is there any possibility of completing this project within the stipulated four months period?
Ans: “We believe by 30^th December 2023, we shall be handing over if there were no challenges of weather. We believe the time given is enough to complete this project.”

Qn: Most times projects come with their architectural designs, is there any change in the design that was presented to you at the start of the project?
Ans: “In this work, we were presented the architectural design and we were told to implement it as it is without any change.”
