Terego District Local Government has disbursed a total of 839,160,000 shillings under NutriCash to 1,665 beneficiaries. This is out of Shs. 1,198,800,000 meant for the project launched by Office of the Prime Minister to support children under two-years, pregnant and breastfeeding mothers in Northern Uganda with the purpose of protecting children from being stunted.

Terego District Chief Administrative Officer, Benson Otim explains that, beneficiaries of NutriCash also save part of the Shs. 48,000 received monthly.
“You will realize that 30% out of the Shs. 48,000 a beneficiary received is saved. So a beneficiary takes home a total of Shs. 33,000” he said, stating that the saving will also help beneficiaries in future.

The CAO revealed this during a community baraza held in Bileafe Sub County, organized by Uganda Parliamentary Forum on Social Protection to monitor implementation of social protection projects by government and partners.

Terego Resident District Commissioner, Festus Ayikobu attributes the success of this project to transparency and commitment of leaders. “I also want to thank our district leaders who have joined Members of Parliament to see and give accountability of what we are doing in the district. It is important that when we receive leaders like that, we can easily correct and see how we are proceeding” he stated.

Meanwhile, the Chairperson of Uganda Parliamentary Forum on Social Protection, Flavia Kabahenda said, this project greatly contributes in improving the health of children and mothers. “For World Food Program (WFP) to come up with this child friendly social protection to support the women who are pregnant and children, I think it will give us a productive citizenry and will raise our labor productivity because we shall have strong, intelligent and clever people on everything and the country will grow by that” she commended.

Launched by Office of the Prime Minster, NutriCash is implemented by United Nation World Food Program and United Nations Children’s Fund in collaboration with Ministry of Health, Ministry of Local Government and Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development.
