Ladies shun body building and weightlifting due to poor attitudes

Poor attitude coupled with low motivation has been identified as some of the factors barring young ladies from taking on body building as for the sporting disciplines in Northern Uganda.

Nancy Atim one of the few ladies venturing in body building as a sport made this remark shortly after being crowned the champion of Northern Uganda body building and power lifting championship hosted by Bomah Hotel in Gulu city.

Emmanuel Weatha, the coordinator of body builders and power lifting in West Nile reechoes the same concern noting they are struggling to mobilize ladies to join the sport. Weatha, adds that they are being challenged by lack of funds for developing the sport in the sub region.

According to Weatha, West Nile have about 30-power lifters spread in the districts of Adjumani, Maracha, Kaboko and Arua city.
The second edition of body Building and powerlifting championship hosted by Bomah Hotel-Gulu in Gulu city attracted more than 20-participants with only one lady.

In 5-different games like physique where Okello Francis Alexander from Gulu city gym emerged champion, weatha Emmanuel from Arua won in powerlifting of 380kgs load followed by Stephen Ojede from Lira. Meanwhile kilama Fred from Gulu won in Body building men and Atim Nancy for women categories respectively.

The Ugandan Giant Kenneth Ssekiranda says that he intends to have a residential training with selected gym instructors in the region for powerlifting ahead of the July championship that be hosted by Gulu City.

The vice president Uganda body building and fitness association Tamali Ssali Stephen is impressed with talent in the region attributing it to better diet and enthusiasm players have in developing the games.
