The National Resistance Movement (NRM) party leadership have identified internal fights among some members as a major factor affecting their performance in some electoral areas.
According to NRM General Secretary, Richard Todwong, the internal fights gives an opportunity for opposition members to succeed, taking advance of the internal division. “We are busy fighting with one another, opposition is just watching us and laughing” he says, giving hope that this can easily be resolved if the party members open-up and focus on finding solutions.

Todwong says, “the moment we clear our internal bickering, no any other political party can stand on our way… we hate each other to the extent that we support opposite instead of our own” These concerns follows the party’s initiative to find out reasons why its performance keeps draining in some electoral areas, especially where opposition wins over the party in the presidential elections.

Ora County Member of Parliament, Songo Lawrence, also the constituency’s party chairperson cites corruption as one of the reasons for internal fight which he says makes the lower structure to suffer with no support. “The little resources that are coming from headquarter in Kampala; it is only few NRM district leaders eating, the LC 1 Chairpersons and party village chairpersons are doing voluntary work with all their heart” he reveals.

However, a party member from Terego District, Sunday Ayikoru challenge the leadership to always intervene early to resolve such cases. “There are issues in NRM, why do you wait for such a meeting (president (also party chair) regional tour? Why don’t you come immediately when you hear about the issues? She questions. Statistics obtained from Electoral Commission indicates that the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party registered the highest percentage in recent general elections with other electoral areas giving lower percentage.
