NUP Leaders take regional meeting to West Nile

The National Unity Platform (NUP) has embarked on a nationwide engagement with its party leaders to identify weaknesses within the party as a strategy of planning for next general election.

This results from performance of the party in 2021 general election saw National Resistance Movement (NRM) in lead followed by NUP at presidential level and in many districts across the country.

While speaking at a meeting with some of the party members in West Nile, National Unity Platform Organizing Secretary, Moses Kanabi revealed that, the strategy also brings together other opposition political parties in generating the ideas. “What brings me here is to preach the gospel of unity, reconciliation because we can’t move this struggle divided or split apart. We must come together as change seeking forces” the Secretary revealed.

Northern Uganda Vice President of Justice Forum, Habib Asega says, joint opposition political parties are in the stage of identifying potential candidates to fill positions for next general election.It is better we come early; who is he from NUP or FDC who want specific position, come now declare we start” Asega states.

However, a former Aspirant for Member of Parliament seat in Maracha Constituency, Yophas Leti calls for regular meetings to easily plan activities. “What we know is that we have the force and numbers, we should now be formal, we have been gambling and this time we should have periodic meetings. We also request that district offices should be opened” he advised.

The Electoral Commission registered eighteen million one hundred three thousand six hundred three voters (18, 103, 603) for 2021 general election. Of this ten million seven hundred forty four thousand, three hundred nineteen (10, 744, 319) people voted.

Electoral Commission declared President Yoweri Museveni as the winner with 58.36% of the total votes and NUP candidate, Robert Kyagulanyi in second position with 35.05% of the votes.
