Arua Muslim District Kadhi, Sheikh Abujaffar Shaban on Friday led a protest against homosexuality, a practice according to verses from Quran is forbidden.
Co-led by Arua Resident City Commissioner, thousands of Muslims together with believers from other faith joined a long walk on streets of the city with placards reading de-campaigning messages. “Run and report to police any case of homosexuality, it is a criminal act and Un-Islamic” Arua Muslim District Kadhi advised.

Organizers of the protest also cited “protection of African culture” as another reason for launching a fight against homosexuality. West Nile Regional Secretary of Uganda Muslim Supreme Council, Habib Aluba challenges the public to desist from the act to be clean before God. “This is a very big sin. Before the Almighty perishes us in the way He perished the communities of Sodom and GomoraH, we want to speak out and God will hear us” he says.
The Provost of Emmanuel Cathedral, Albert Aziku who represented the Bishop of Madi and West Nile Diocese called for respect towards God’s purpose of creation, challenging public to desist from the act.

According to Arua Resident City Commissioner, Alice Akello, government will continue to oppose the act which is illegal in the country. The Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Ramadhan Mubajje made open call for protest against homosexuality across the country and Parliament of Uganda also received private member’s bill against the practice.
