Women urged to take lead in supporting girl child education

Women in Arua District have been called upon to play their Roles of Educating the Girl Child. This Call, came during the celebrations to mark the International Women’s Day in Arua District. March 8th has been designated to celebrate annually and globally the socio-economic and political achievements of women.
Uganda celebrated International Women’s Day in Kiruhura District under the theme “Digital Innovation and technology for gender equality”, whereas Arua District celebrated the 2023 Women’s Day in Logiri Sub County.

Munguci Harriet, a female final year Student Pursuing Bachelors in Social Works and Social Administration of Uganda Christian University Arua Campus said, Women’s day happens to be her birthday and that listening to women in leadership Positions gave her morale to study.
“One time, women’s day was celebrated in my Village in Terego. I was encouraged to study by some prominent women who spoke to us and since then, I picked Courage to reach where they are”. She recalls.
Patience Ayikoru, a third Year  female Student of Muni University Pursuing Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture offers the insights on curbing Girl child Drop out in Schools in that when Women who have Made better strides in Education and Business go and talk to their fellow Young Girls, it will refocus the Girls Life and they will emulate these successful Women from their Vicinity. “These girls do not have someone they look to as their Inspiration and they do not have a vision of what they want to become in the Future, but when talked to by role Models, they will go to school and concentrate on studies.” She Advised.
John Bosco O’dama, the Local Council Three Chairman Logiri Sub County Urged Parents in  Logiri and Arua District at large,  to send both Boys and Girls to School. “Arua District is known for High Teenage Pregnancies and we see our young Girls getting married without going to school. I call upon all Parents, Please; let’s protect our girls who are prone to Quite a number of Issues.” He Urged. 
Amandru Stella Wawa, the Dean of Students of Muni University says there are several Scholarship Opportunities for Women offering Science Subjects in Muni University. These Scholarships are: Government Sponsorship, District Quota Sponsorship, and Students Loan Scheme under the Higher Education Students Financing Board, among others. She further noted that Muni University has been equipped with a Business Incubation Center to nurture Ideas. “Any established Women Group should feel free to approach Muni University for advice from Business Experts who will Nurture their Ideas into resilient Businesses.” She Added.
 
Hon. Paparu Lillian O’biale, the woman Member of Parliament for Arua District, who officiated the Women’s Days Celebration as the Chief Guest says, once the women in Arua District have sufficient Education as a result of being given equal opportunity to education for both Boys and Girls at Homes, Embracing Technology for women will still be a mystery since the uneducated Woman cannot use the ICT Gadgets.
“The Woman is the Foundation of Education in the Home, and in a family where the mother is unbothered about the Education, the Girls Growing in such a home do not Go to school.” She lamented.
The United Nations celebrated International Women’s Day for the first time in 1975.
