The leader of the opposition in parliament of Uganda Hon. Matthias Mpuuga has asked the people of west Nile region to demand for services for which they have continued to pay. He notes that the region has lagged behind in infrastructure developments like roads, electricity among other social services which they are entitled for. Hon. Mpuuga made the call during his two days oversight role of monitoring and supervision of government projects in Madi sub region that started on 04-05 of April 2023. He wondered why government of Uganda has not construct Laropi Bridge on river Nile to improve access to social services yet the local have continue to pay tax to the government. “Museveni and his people have been in power for forty years and the bridge is barely half a kilometer, and the people who have been paying taxes for sixty years are demand for a bridge. The question of the day is do we have government here? Or some sleeping men and women?” He remarked.

Hon. Mpuuga adds; “I came here in region of west Nile official as a leader of opposition to undertake oversight over matters for which you pay taxes. You are not only a Ugandan but tax payers and make us what we are, and government what’s name should response to the needs of the people”.
He notes that the people in the region are part Uganda that must benefit from the government is offering.
Some of the facilities he visited include Dufile seed secondary school where a multi-billion projects of constructing classroom blocks, multipurpose hall, science laboratory, staff house stalled. And also a maternity ward at Arra health center ii all in Dufile sub county. Many of the projects are incomplete and locked by the contractor due to lack of money to finish the projects.

Hon. Gilbert Oulanyah, the Member of Parliament clerk south in Amuru district says there is a gang of people who have connived to eat government money at the expenses of the local community thinking the district is far from Kampala. “When we went to Dufile ss I real feel people need to be serious. You can the laboratory is just abandon, the contractor did the work and locked the classrooms, accommodations for teachers also all locked. We wondered what is happening yet the contractor was given about UGX: 2.1 Billion. You can see how people connived to chew government money” He Said. Gilbert adds: “at arra health center ii, the contractor abandoned the project for last two years without completing it saying the people in the area have been denied access to health services. He promised to take the matter to another level so the victims are brought to book”.

Hassan Kaps Fungaroo, former Member of Parliament Obongi Consistituncy

Hassan kaps fungaroo the former Member of Parliament obongi consistituncy said in west Nile region when money comes there is no grantee that services will be offered to the local people. “When I you kick football on the wall where does it go? Of course it comes back in a reversed way. So the corruption networks have been created in a way that money comes this way and goes back without finishing works and at the end of the day people suffer” he remarked. “Abandoned projects are many you can see this building here, the contractor is complaining against the people who gave him the contract for not having paid him. But why have they not pay him? Where has the money gone?”
Fungaroo has called on the opposition political parties unite for the common interest of the people of west Nile particular Madi sub region which is in a great darkness.
