Councilors yet to monitor government projects for last financial year.

The minister for local government Rapheal Magyezi has directed Omoro chief administrative officer (CAO) to implement lawful resolutions of the council including organizing monitoring of government projects. This come at a time when the minister had impromptu meeting with the councilors who were aggrieved of technocrats working in isolations neglecting the role of legislators.

The District Chairperson Douglas Peter Okello castigated the acting chief administrator Nicholas Ogwang for disrespecting council decisions including allocating funds for monitoring, implementation of council resolutions close to two years.   

Isaac Odong, the male councilor for Lakwaya Sub County thinks the sidelining of district councilors in monitoring have escalated corruption in the district. According to Odong, monitoring is only permitted for selected projects of interest, there are ghosts projects in the district, change of road projects.Rose Nyapolo the woman councilor for koro wants councilors to be given the opportunity to conduct committee meetings and monitoring, delayed emoluments paid timely and adequately.

However, the CAO Nicholas Ogwang revealed lack of finance to engage councilors in monitoring of all projects. He sited social services and finance committee conduct meeting. But minister Magyezi says, all government projects have 4-5% allocations for monitoring by local councilors.
