Opposition political leaders in Uganda have called on the leaders in West Nile to use the visit of the President to inform him of issues that are pressing the region, and denying them progress. The president of the republic of Uganda, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is expected to visit West Nile region from the 11th of April 2023, and talk to the leaders in the region.

Ahead of his visit, Mathias Mpuuga, the leader of opposition in parliament, together with some of the opposition leaders visited West Nile to launch fasting, prayer, and dialogue, so as to enable the leaders to present West Nile development priorities and approach to the president, and in return get positive responses.

The opposition leader observed that, West Nile is not being focused properly on the development agenda, and encouraged the people in the region to demand for their rights. “There is a lot going on in parliament, and I have not seen West Nile being focused on properly, why is it that there is no power in West Nile after 60 years of independence, getting education is a right.”Mpuuga said

Hassan Kaps Fungaroo, the former Member of Parliament for Obongi constituency called on the West Nilers to seek for God’s intervention on the issues of their region, to enable the president to listen to their demands, “This month of Ramadan is a month of fasting and prayers for Muslims, this week of Easter is a week of fasting and prayers for Christians, we would like to appeal to God through prayers so that somebody will talk to the president and he listens.”Kaps said

Similarly, Lee Oguzu of Maraca constituency demands for unity among the people in West Nile for the common cause. The office of the leader of opposition is constitutionally mandated to play an oversight role in the governance of the country.
