Yumbe District local government awards Wethungerhilfe an aid agency for its remarkable support to the communities through socio-economic transformation of lives of the people in the district. Wethungerhilfe is one of the organizations in the district that provides financial support to the most vulnerable persons. They also promote agricultural production to improve livelihoods of the people in yumbe.

Mr. Asiku Abdul Mutalib the chairperson yumbe district council while handing over a certificate of appreciation to the NGO represented by its area coordinator Mr. Wend Amuge and the project manager Mr. William Omara during a meeting held at the district headquarters on Friday (31/03/31), says the award follows a series of support initiatives it accorded to the people in yumbe district.

According to Abdul Mutalib, Wethungerilfe has demonstrated that they are partners to work with. “We have had a challenge with partners only looking at the settlements as if that’s where the district is, When Ideally we have twenty six sub counties and the settlement general covers five of the twenty six sub counties. We have apparently twenty one sub counties which are not attended to” Mr. Abdul Mutalib said. He adds: “so when we talk to partners because in most cases their programs are detected upon by donors sometimes they don’t listen but Wethungerilfe has been such a unique partner that their programing is informed by the challenges within the communities. So we are appreciating them for the good working they are doing and we are asking them to continue supporting the district where necessary”. He noted that partners like wethungerilfe should be supported heavily by the donors because they need donor intervention and partners that are dependable, reliable and appreciates the challenges communities are going through to address service delivery gaps. Asiku also commits political support in providing enabling environment for such organization.

Mr. Wend Amuge, the area coordinator of wethungerilfe has attributed the excellent performance of the organization to coordination and collaboration between the organization and the district leadership. “We believe everything we doing we have to start from the district so that we collective efforts and we agree on decisions together because the work we are doing is not our work it’s for the people we are serving because one time we may leave but the district will continue to exist here” she said. Mrs. Wend comments that in wethungerilfe they are implementing 50%, 50% for both refugees and the host community which has helped them to support the two communities. “Because at the end of the day we want the lives of refugees improved but how about the people who are hosting the refugees? Are we just leaving them the way we got them? Or their livelihoods should also be in position to improve? That’s what we are looking at as wethungerilfe” she adds. She also attributes the performance of the organization to team spirit which has resulted into quality service delivery.
Mr. William Omara, the project manager says their interventions are consistent with the local and national development priorities. He cited skilling the youth and agriculture extension services as agendas that also fits in the national development plan of Uganda which aimed at creating an impact and opportunities to be self-sustaining.
