The newly posted substantive Town Clerk of Lira City, Vincent Okurut, has settled into office with a big promise of boosting local revenue collection in the city that has for long been struggling to meet its local revenue targets.
“I with vast experience on the operations of local government, I know many urban authorities struggle to collection local revenue, they always focus mainly on tapping little revenue from garbage collection, that mindset must change, urban centers have a lot of local revenue sources which we must exploit to address the challenge of low local revenue collection, I call for cooperation, hard work, teamwork coupled with team spirit, will make us to achieve our target,” he remarked.
John Stephen Kasada, the then acting Lira city town clerk while handing over office to the new substantive Town clerk highlighted the grey areas that his successor must take on with an immediate effect.
“My brother Town clerk, you must know that there are so many challenges that this city is battling, things like court cases, Understaffing, and the pending asset sharing between Lira city and Lira District among others, you need to have them addressed as soon as possible because they have dragged back development of the city,” he stressed.
Meanwhile, Lira City mayor, Sam Atul promised to work closely with the new city Clerk to hit the target of local revenue set to help in the purchase of a grader for the city.
