Miss tourism Northern Uganda is partnering with Lady Tree Co. Ltd, a local company that plants and manages trees to plant one million trees in 20 selected schools across Lango sub region as part of her effort in promoting environmental conservation.

Ms. Calvin Ayao, the Director of Lady tree company limited during the launch of the tree planting exercise at Aduku seed secondary school in Kwania district explained that they are targeting students so that they can be made to know the importance of trees when they are still young so that when they grow up, they can foster environmental conservation.

“As climate change challenge is a reality, we are partnering with Miss Tourism Northern Uganda in greening some of the schools especially seed schools because we see they have very few trees on their compounds since they are still new, we are picking two schools per district where we are giving 2,000 tree seedlings to each school, we want the students to embrace tree growing to help in protecting the environment,” she noted

Meanwhile, Michael Oboke, the spokesperson for Miss Tourism Northern Uganda, said they are using this tree planting initiative to sensitize the students on environmental conservation besides planting trees in their schools. “You know, the effect of environmental degradation is real and the students need to be made aware of that so that they can play a role in protecting the environment through personal involvement, we request you to keep the trees well,” he remarked.

Charles Mugisha, the headteacher of Aduku Seed S S applauded Lady Tree Company Ltd for supporting his school with tree seedlings saying that such initiative will make a positive impact forever.

According to an inventory done by the National Forestry Authority in 2019, Uganda has lost half its forestry cover in the past 30 years.

65% of forest degradation takes place on private land since more than 90% of Ugandan population depend directly on forest for their energy needs i.e. firewood and Charcoal.
