Literacy for Adult Basic Education (LABE) in partnership with AVSI has arranged a diagnostic exercise in Terego district for children with disabilities from the age of one to ten so as to help parents get their child the help they need as soon as possible.
The diagnostic exercise follows a stepwise approach to reach the final descriptive clinical diagnosis.
Sunday Anyama, the coordinator of LABE in Terego district while speaking on August 20, 2024 at Alinia Home Learning Center in Katrini Sub County divulged that, they have decided to organize the exercise after seeing large number of children with disabilities in the district are not liberally considered. “We will continue assisting children whose sicknesses have been appropriately recognized” said Sunday.
However, Sam Feta, the Probation officer for Terego district extols LABE for the initiative stressing that, the district failed to do it due to financial constraints. “I would like to thank LABE in a very special way for this engagement. We as local government, we have it in the structure but we are not implementing it” stated Sam.
Meanwhile, the Parish chief for Olea Parish Mr. Ajiga Tom articulated that “we are all aware that sometimes children with disabilities are locked inside and can’t be allowed to move but I am very sure this intervention here, will help much to address such issues.”
Whereas Robert Drapari one of the parents noted that, the exercise has come at a time when many of them have been struggling to provide key basic needs for children with disabilities. “We as parents, we sometime fail to help these children timely due to lack of money and for that reason, LABE has really done a great work,” noted Robert.
The data got from medics who are carrying out this exercise in numerous ECD centers in the district indicates that, majority of children with disabilities are suffering from ADHD, Autism Spectrum disorder, Cerebral Palsy, Hearing loss, Fragile X syndrome, Tourette syndrome and other developmental disabilities.
