A good number of Christians at St. Mauritz Parish Gulu on Friday September 13, 2024 thronged the parish Centre to receive the newly posted curate, Rev Fr. Derrick Okidi.
Rev. Fr. Derrick Okidi was quick to promise both the parishioners and the acting parish priest Rev Fr. Anthony Acire, teamwork and team spirit towards the holistic development of St Mauritz parish.
“I Have come full of strength and readiness to work together with all the Christians and all the stakeholders of this parish, I`m praying to God for more blessings as I commit myself to spreading the gospel of the Lord at this parish,” he remarked.
The acting parish priest of St Mauritz parish Rev.Fr. Anthony Acire appealed to the Christians to work together with the new curate for the betterment of St Mauritz parish. “To my brother priest, Rev. Fr Derrick Okidi, I welcome you to this home where we proclaim and hard work in spreading the gospel of the Lord,” he noted.
The chairperson organizing committee Ms. Florence Odoch, said coming of the new curate will bridge the gap they were having at St Mauritz parish after the demise of Rev. Father Cyprian Odong who was the parish priest.
“You know St. Mauritz has nine chapels, this makes it very hard for only one priest to do all the activities of the parish, we are happy that the new curate said he has come for work and that`s what we have been yearning for,” she echoed.
The parish priest of St. Joseph`s Cathedral, Dr. Micheal Lawrence Komakech, says that the work that God has called Father Derrick for is not what he chose by himself and he did not look for, “so continue doing God`s work with all your ability and strength and with love,” he remarked.
Reverend Father Derrick Okidi, is the only son out of five children of Mrs. Rose Latoo Mwaka and he was among the six recently ordained priests by Archbishop Emeritus Dr. John Baptist Odama from St. Joseph Cathedral parish Gulu in August this year.
