Leaders in Terego district have identified lack of interest by the government to develop tourism sites as one of the major issues leading to low revenue collections in the district.

According to these leaders, the district has some service sector sites like Mountain Wati, River Okulacere amongst others which are capable of bringing supplementary income for the district.

Hon Rose Obiga, the woman Member of Parliament for Terego district says, she will continue pushing until the government improves some of the travel sites in the district. “Terego had written to the tourism sector, take like Mountain Wati which has a lot of animals and we had said the ministry of tourism should go and see what else they can add and this has not yet been done,” said Hon Rose Obiga.

Meanwhile, Enima Aquilinos, the commercial officer says, doing some enhancements on the tourism sites by the government would bring additional income for the district. “You know tourism is one thing that brings a lot of income and if the tourism sites in the district are improved, development will be easy” stated Enima.
According to Akifu Noah, a concerned citizen “Our revenue collection is very low because we don’t have fruitful revenue sources. Take like Mountains, Rivers amongst others that we have, there is a lot of money in these things” noted Noah.

Local governments can improve tourism sites to drive an increase in revenue by strategically promoting their unique attractions, cultural offerings and events to attract visitors, thereby stimulating economic activities, supporting local businesses and increasing revenue through tourism-related expenditures.
