Uganda and Democratic Republic of Congo authorities have pledged to strengthen their bilateral collaboration in promoting regional development in the areas of security, social and economic aspects.

The pledge was made in a regional meeting among delegates from the two countries, a meeting that also attracted leaders from boarder districts of Arua and Maracha.

“I want to say the two countries need each other, Uganda needs Congo as much as Congo needs Uganda because both of us in one way or the other we are landlocked countries so it is us through such meetings, we unlock ourselves and we must always as leadership be at the top of our responsibility to ensure that our people trade freely across the two countries.”

In his remark, the representative from Democratic Republic of Congo, Col. Richard Mbambi, appreciated the Ugandan counterparts for the peaceful coexistence.

“We congratulate all our services on both sides that manage the entities for having allowed the population to socialize and work in a calm atmosphere, all our desire is to see that all concerns which will be raised in this meeting be well analysed in order to take lasting resolution to strengthen our cross broader collaboration on security, social and economic levels.”

Maracha Resident District Commissioner, Hajji Ramathan Walugembe, called for continuous cooperation for regional growth.

“The issues that unite us as Africans are many compared to the ones that divide us and therefore we must concentrate on those issues that unite the people of Africa and ignore those ones that divide us, that’s the only way to develop Africa.”

The delegates from the two neighbouring countries also agreed on holding Regional meetings after every three months focused at promoting trade, security, and economic advancement.
