Market Vendors in Arua main market have been operating in darkness for the past three weeks after the service provider failed to obtain power to light the market.
Due to the lack of electricity, vendors have now resorted to using torches and phone lights to provide light for themselves while others have moved out of the market.
Everest Bedi one of the fish mongers operating in the down flow of the main markets says they are now losing customers. “The market is very dark and people are losing their properties like this down part without power you cannot sell, the customers cannot come, since it is very dark we are requesting if the government cannot come in, at least the market authorities should look for a way forward.”
Joel Leni who deals with produce says lack of electricity has grossly affected their business. “You can’t sell in darkness, we have been facing a lot of challenges, customers normally complain that they cannot see things very well that how some of them end up running away and buy wherever they want to buy and now days we are no longer getting money as we used to get.”
Rofins Aliga the administrator Arua main market manager says the challenge is being sorted urging the vendors to be patient. “This agent has not been remitting money to WENERCO and as such the bill accumulated and WENERCO had nothing to do only to come and disconnect but the city I trying to engage the agent so that he can handover the server so that either a news server is got, let them be calm the meeting are going on if all goes well am sure by next week power will be here in the market, we shall be in light.”
This is not the first time that the vendors have faced electricity challenges in the main market.
