The National Resistance Movement (NRM) secretary general, Richard Todwong, has said there will be no extension for the party's register update campaign. The register update, from March 13 to 17, has apparently left many party faithful out after they failed to register or update their affiliate detail.

This update is a strategic move for the NRM party, aiming to solidify their base for the 2026 elections. An accurate register will be their compass, guiding them in gauging supporter strength and planning effective campaigns.

Todwong said an extension could disorganize the whole registration process. He added that those that never registered, time will come where they will be registered.
“An extension would disorganize our planning, and so we are encouraging the members that even those who have not been able to register, time will come when we shall register them," he said.

The NRM chief said when the students take their holiday, the party will open the register again and that will also give chance to those that have not registered to do so. They should be patient,” he said.

Todwong further clarified on the issue of age, saying it highly considered. "According to our constitution, to a member of a party you should be aged 16 and above, but to be a voter as required by the national constitution, you need to 18 years and above,” he said.

“So membership register that we have been updating, we were registering those from 16 years and above, but now when we are extracting voters register from membership register, we shall only get those from the age of 18 and above."
