POLICE OPERATION NETS 32 SUSPECTED GANGS IN ARUA CITY

Police in Arua city have detained 32 suspected criminals operating within the suburbs of the city’s central business Centre on claims of possessing dangerous weapons and narcotic drugs.

In the intelligence led operation steered on Monday March 25, 2024 in the areas of Ediofe mission cell, Adriko cell, Arua primary, Air Japan, Lumumba cell, Upper ‘bi’bia cell among others, police recovered seven numberless motorcycles, packs of marijuana and several metallic weapons including hammers, pangas, knives, pliers, ropes, and a nailed wooden club and others suspected to be used by these suspects for terrorizing and robbing people.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday March 26, 2024, SSP. Josephine Angucia the police spokesperson for West Nile region confirmed the arrests. “Yesterday 25 march 2024, following some complaints of robberies in Arua city, police launched an operation in which 32 suspected criminal were arrested and 7 numberless motorcycles recovered and dangerous weapons including house breaking implements were also recovered from the suspected criminals and some drugs recovered. Some of the suspects were identified to have participated in previous cases of robberies and they are currently in police custody,” Angucia said.

Arua city currently has a number of gang groups terrorizing the people in many parts of the city and even fighting among themselves. Angucia however urged the public to tip the security on the whereabouts of these suspected gangs to aid their arrest.

“Inquiries are ongoing, after making their files they will be produced to court for hearing. We want to appeal to members of public that we are committed to pacifying Arua city. These operations will continue until when there is sanity, we only appeal to the members of public to report some of these cases to police so that we are able to net down these suspected criminals and take them before courts of law,” Angucia pleaded. 

The renowned gang groups in Arua city includes; the Manya boys, Janjamin, 35 Dogs, Chicken no pass, Jobless billionaires among others.
